A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Ian is a multi-instrumentalist who includes piano and drums in his long list of accomplished instrumental skills. He has been a drum teacher at Key Signatures since it opened in 2007, and has been teaching private and group piano lessons since 2010. Ian has experience teaching children and adults of all levels.
At VCU, Ian received his Bachelor’s of Music Performance Degree in Percussion Studies, where he specialized in the Marimba, a 5-7 foot xylophone instrument that has a layout similar to the keyboard and is often played with two mallets in each hand. He also used his time at VCU to further his studies on the piano, which he played throughout his childhood.
Ian spent over 6 years as the assistant percussion/drumline instructor for Midlothian High School and Ian's original solo works for Marimba were performed regularly during his stay at VCU. In the fall of 2009, Ian created his band The Hadron Delay, of which he is the lead singer, keyboardist, and composer, and he continues to perform at local venues throughout the Richmond area
