Marla grew up in Hampton Roads, Virginia, where she began playing flute at age seven. As a young musician, she pursued many musical opportunities, performing with the Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Hampton Roads Chamber Players. In high school, she was accepted to the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, VA, where she continued her flute studies and became a finalist in several competitions at the local and state levels.
Marla is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance in Flute at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her recent achievements include winning first place in the South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition, as well as the Richmond Flute Fest Collegiate Competition. Marla has performed for numerous world-renowned artists, including Bonita Boyd, Damian Bursill-Hall, Nicolas Duchamp, and The Imani Winds Quintet. She currently performs throughout the Richmond area with Duo Allegro, a classical flute and guitar duo.
Marla accepts students 8 and up in the beginning to advanced levels of flute. She enjoys emphasizing a strong sense of musicality and technique in her students at any level.
