Though initially a trumpet player, Scott began drumming at age 15. He graduated from Randolph-Macon College with a degree in Environmental Science. As a founding member of Richmond-based Carbon Leaf, Scott spent 15 years both touring and recording. Scott has studied at the Drummer's Collective in New York City, and has studied privately with Billy Ward (NYC) and Mike Donovan (Richmond).

Scott began teaching in 2001, and has been steadily growing his student base with his relaxed yet interactive teaching style. He emphasizes the rudiments of drumming, reading music, regular practice, and he helps students explore their unique musical interests. In addition to teaching drum lessons, Scott is the drum-line instructor at Monacan High School and a member of several music groups, including Near Earth Objects, The Venture Rays, and a newly formed kid’s band called The Diggity Dudes.
